TMC Claims Centre Declined Approval for Proposed Textile Park at Jagir Ammapalayam

Tamil Maanila Congress leader cites Union Ministry communication stating no approval has been granted for the proposed textile park in Salem.
Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) west district president K.V. Suseendra Kumar on Wednesday claimed that the Union Government has declined approval for the proposed textile park at Jagir Ammapalayam in Salem.
Speaking to reporters at the Salem Collectorate, Mr. Suseendra Kumar said the project, announced last year, envisaged establishing a textile park with over 50 dyeing units and other textile-related industries. He added that a private firm, Salem Yarn Colouring Park, had initiated steps to establish 60 dyeing units.
The proposal faced opposition from local residents, farmers and several organisations, who alleged that the proposed dyeing units would affect groundwater resources and agriculture. Multiple rounds of protests were organised against the project, including a hunger strike led by the TMC near the Collectorate.
Mr. Suseendra Kumar said a petition had subsequently been submitted to Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh regarding the project.
According to Mr. Suseendra Kumar, the Minister later informed them through a letter that neither the Union Government nor the State Government had granted approval for establishing dyeing units in the proposed textile park at Jagir Ammapalayam.
Mr. Suseendra Kumar thanked farmers and various organisations for opposing the proposal. He also said that any attempt to revive the project or implement a similar proposal would be strongly opposed.
