Surat's industry leaders have urged that one of the country's seven mega investment textile parks, as declared by the federal government, be established in Surat.

On Wednesday, the proposal was made during an open house meeting in the city with Industries Commissioner Rahul Gupta and M. Thennarsan, vice-chairman and managing director of GIDC. The industries department team travelled to Surat for a one-day trip to discuss different problems with stakeholders.

This year's Union budget included a declaration that seven mega investment textile parks will be built in the country over the following three years. According to sources at the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry, government authorities have requested them to choose a land piece for the textile park.

According to the Union budget, the parks would be built on 1,000 acres of land, with world-class infrastructure and plug-and-play amenities.
