From July 6–8, 2023, at the Textile Fairs India in New Delhi, the Germany-based business emtec Electronic will present a ground-breaking advancement in haptic measuring for textiles and nonwovens. Yarnex, F&A, Indigo, and Homtex are among the six exhibits that make up TFI Delhi, which is anticipated to draw important customers and suppliers from around the world.

The way textile manufacturers assess the haptic of their products is about to undergo a change thanks to a new testing tool from emtec Electronic. In less time than it takes to boil a cup of coffee, all of the factors that affect a fabric’s hand-feel may now be precisely quantified and digitalized. A cloud-based haptic library that enables simple categorization and comparison of samples across sites is also part of the latest edition.

similar to The updated TSA provides objective data on a very subjective phenomenon—the human touch—in comparison to its predecessor. The portable lab gadget measures the haptic characteristics of softness, smoothness, flexibility, elasticity, and recovery/deformation based on a measuring principle that resembles human fingertips. With the introduction of the new product, it will be possible to learn even more haptic aspects; these new capabilities are expected to be made public at the ITMA in 2023.  When combined, the individually assessed characteristics serve as the foundation for an overall hand-feel measurement that is derived from proprietary algorithms based on the application and target market of the product and that closely matches consumer expectations in the relevant market. However, the individually measured haptic factors provide manufacturers with a deeper knowledge than the conventional hand-panel rankings. preference of the consumer.

The TSA clarifies the issue of why one product is chosen over another. Is it due to the cushion, elasticity, softness, or a particular mix of characteristics? Alexander Gruener, manager of emtec’s global marketing and business development, explains. “With the updates to the current TSA, manufacturers now have even more resources at their disposal to define and hone the appeal of their product.”

Significantly, the redesign now features a cloud-based, digital haptic library that can be accessed from anywhere in the globe and stores the precise characteristics of a sample. Since brands can share product specifications, compare samples, and locate sample matches in the databank across sites, the digitalization of the haptic results significantly improves supply chain communication. That is turn accelerates fabric development, assures product quality, and reduces courier costs required to send development samples, thereby reducing the overall environmental footprint.
Additionally, the TSA allows manufacturers to take a high-resolution image of the sample with a built-in camera, showing in detail the weave pattern and structure, measure the haptic properties, then digitally capture and categorize the sample in the online library.
Visitors to the Textile Fair India are encouraged to visit booth No. S11, located in the Home Textiles Section, and chat with Global Sales Manager Ulli Kasten to learn more about the new TSA.
