Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh visited the Brandix manufacturing facility located in the Atchutapuram Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Anakapalli district on May 30.
During his visit, Singh interacted with employees at the facility and reviewed the welfare measures being implemented for workers. He stated that Brandix serves as a model for women empowerment through employment opportunities created by the company.
The minister said Andhra Pradesh has significant potential in the textile sector and observed that the establishment of additional industries in the state could contribute to large-scale employment generation and industrial growth.
Addressing a meeting later, Singh said the country's second-largest employer after agriculture is the textile sector. He noted that investments in the garment industry have created substantial employment opportunities and that large manufacturing units have expanded job prospects for women and youth in rural areas.
Singh said local residents informed him that women's participation in the region had increased following the establishment of the Brandix facility. He added that greater economic empowerment of women has contributed to the overall development of families.
The minister also highlighted the growing importance of technical textiles, describing the segment as a key area for future industrial expansion. He said technical textiles are finding increasing applications in sectors such as aerospace, drones, defence, healthcare and agriculture.
Referring to discussions with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Singh said efforts were being made to promote the technical textiles sector in Andhra Pradesh. He expressed confidence that the state is well positioned to emerge as a major hub for the industry.
The minister further stated that the establishment of more textile and technical textile units could strengthen the state's industrial ecosystem and create additional employment opportunities.
