Techtextil 2026 will focus on industrial applications of defence textiles as demand rises alongside increasing global defence spending. The event, scheduled from 21 to 24 April 2026 in Frankfurt am Main, will feature over 1,500 exhibitors, with more than 10 percent presenting innovations in protective materials.

EU defence spending reached approximately €381 billion in 2025, reflecting increased demand for advanced materials. The European Defence Fund’s 2026 Work Programme has identified “smart and multifunctional textiles” as a priority area, aligning with developments to be presented at Techtextil.

From 21 to 24 April 2026, more than 10 percent of over 1,500 exhibitors in Frankfurt am Main will showcase innovations in protective textiles. These developments address requirements for ballistic resistance, flame protection, and durability, while maintaining comfort and ergonomic performance. Regulatory developments, including PFAS restrictions, are also influencing demand for alternative finishing technologies with water-, oil-, and dirt-repellent properties.

For procurement professionals, buyers, and technical teams, the focus is increasingly on materials that can be processed in compliance with standards and produced at consistent quality and scale. This includes applications in ballistic systems and CBRN protective clothing.

The event will present a broad market overview for stakeholders in the defence sector. More than 150 specialised exhibitors will cover developments across the value chain, including fibre technologies and finished materials. Lenzing Group will present flame-retardant cellulose fibres designed to provide integrated heat and flame resistance. HS Hyosung Advanced Materials will showcase synthetic polymer-based high-performance yarns.

Texprocess, taking place alongside Techtextil, will feature around 200 exhibitors in Hall 8.0 and focus on processing and finishing technologies. Together, the two events will host more than 1,700 exhibitors at the Frankfurt exhibition grounds.

“Requirements for protective fabrics are becoming increasingly similar across many fields of application: low weight, high durability, thermal comfort, and reproducible processing,” explains Lotje Oosterlinck, Product Manager Workwear at Concordia Textiles. “What is becoming decisive, therefore, is the ability to develop material solutions across different protection domains and to transfer them into industrial processes tailored to specific applications.”

The “Performance Apparel Textiles” area in Hall 9.0 will include around 150 exhibitors presenting applications for protective clothing through the “Performance Apparels on Stage” format. Supporting this segment, the “Textile Chemicals & Dyes” section will include more than 30 exhibitors linking chemical processes with textile applications.

Suppliers such as Güth & Wolf GmbH, JUMBO-Textil GmbH & Co. KG, and Otto Stockmayer & Sohn GmbH will present components including narrow textiles, webbings, and knitted fabrics used in protective systems.

“In protective textiles, market relevance is not determined by a new fibre or finish alone. Particularly in demanding applications, testability, reproducibility and the reliable transfer into industrial processes are becoming the true benchmarks of innovation,” says Dr. Heike Illing-Günther, Managing Director of the Saxon Textile Research Institute.

The Techtextil Forum will support discussions on industrial scalability, featuring inputs from NASA experts and sessions on “Textile Intelligence” and “Resilient Textiles”. The programme will focus on functional materials, durability, and the transition from concept to industrial-scale application.
