Techtextil 2026 Highlights Sustainable Materials and Circular Textile Innovations

Techtextil 2026, scheduled from 21 to 24 April 2026 in Frankfurt am Main, will focus on developments in technical textiles, including sustainable materials and circular economy solutions. The event will showcase innovations in natural fibres, bio-based materials and recycling technologies.
Techtextil 2026 will present a range of developments in alternative materials and recycling technologies, reflecting ongoing changes in the technical textiles sector. Sustainability requirements and regulatory frameworks are contributing to increased adoption, while improvements in performance and cost efficiency are supporting broader application.
The exhibition will introduce the “Nature Performance” label, which groups together exhibitors working with natural fibres, bio-based yarns and related materials. More than 110 exhibitors will be featured under this category, covering applications across multiple segments of technical textiles. Companies including Abacell, Basaltex, Cordenka, Karsu Tekstil, Südwolle and Vombaur will participate. These exhibitors will be identified both at the venue and in the online exhibitor directory. Hall 9.1 will serve as a central area for these solutions.
The use of sustainable fibres and yarns continues to expand, with increased focus on materials such as jute, coir, flax, sisal, industrial hemp, kapok and abaca. Dr Terry P. Townsend from the Discover Natural Fibres Initiative stated: “Fibres such as jute (3 million tonnes/year), coir (1.2 million tonnes), short flax fibres (200,000 tonnes), sisal (300,000 tonnes), industrial hemp (400,000 tonnes), kapok (80,000 tonnes) and abaca (50,000 tonnes) are used primarily in technical applications and have great potential for expanded recovery and recycling. Potential applications for recycled natural fibres range from composites used in automobiles to reduce weight and improve sustainability, to insulation materials made from hollow fibres, to construction materials made with natural fibres as a binder.”
Recycled and recyclable fibres will also be a key focus, with approximately 90 exhibitors presenting solutions in this segment. Companies such as Aquafil, Freudenberg Performance Materials, Lenzing, Nilit, Purfi Manufacturing, Recyc’Elit SAS, Teijin Group and The Lycra Company will participate.
The “Dutch Circular Textile Pavilion” in Hall 9.1 will highlight fibre-to-fibre recycling technologies. SaXcell will present a chemical recycling process that converts textile waste into cotton-like fibres. The brand Vodde will showcase its supply chain for producing yarns made entirely from recycled textile waste. Additional contributions will come from EECOFF, Materialliance and Tex-tracer, including a yarn library and other innovations.
The Texpertise Econogy programme will run alongside the exhibition, identifying companies that meet specific sustainability, ethical and economic criteria. Around 120 exhibitors at Techtextil 2026 will carry the Econogy label, which will be visible in exhibitor listings and at stands. The programme also includes Econogy Talks and guided tours focused on sustainability-related topics.
