Techtextil & Texprocess 2026: Textile Innovation Spotlight

With 1,700 exhibitors from 54 countries, Techtextil and Texprocess 2026 present the complete spectrum of innovation in the global textile industry. The showcases span new materials, recycling technologies, advanced finishing solutions, and high-performance textile manufacturing and processing systems.

A key focus of the opening press conference was Performance Apparel Textiles, a segment where innovation is particularly dynamic.

Techtextil features 1,500 exhibitors from 52 countries. Key highlights include the newly unified standalone segment Textile Chemicals & Dyes, along with the Nature Performance-labelled showcase featuring over 110 exhibitors presenting natural and bio-based fibres and yarns.

Compared to the previous edition, Performance Apparel Textiles has doubled its exhibitor participation, reflecting growing global demand.

Texprocess hosts 200 exhibitors from 28 countries, presenting innovations across textile processing—from design to finishing—driven by automation, digitalisation, and artificial intelligence. A key highlight is the Start-up Stars area, which connects emerging companies directly with industry and research partners.

Techtextil and Texprocess continue to rank among the world’s most innovation-driven trade fairs.

Detlef Braun, Member of the Executive Board of Messe Frankfurt, states:
“A good idea that remains in the laboratory changes nothing. A technology that does not scale solves no problem. The real lever is the ability to translate innovations into market-ready solutions – from fibre to application, from prototype to product. That is precisely what Techtextil and Texprocess stand for.”

Performance Apparel Textiles: Rising Demand, Higher Expectations

Across sports, outdoor, fashion, workwear, safety-critical sectors, and emergency applications, demand for advanced functional textiles continues to rise.

Increased global investment in security, defence, and disaster response is further driving the need for durable, standards-compliant, and high-performance textile solutions.

The curated showcase “Performance Apparels on Stage” (Hall 9.0) highlights innovations designed for real-world conditions. An expert jury selected exhibits demonstrating multifunctional performance, including flame resistance, UV protection, thermoregulation, and integrated smart textile technologies.

Judith Bosch, Senior Manager Smart and Technical Textiles at ETP and jury member of “Performance Apparels on Stage”, explains:
“Requirements have become significantly more complex. Today, performance textiles must fulfil several functions simultaneously – protection, comfort, durability and sustainability. This can only be achieved through the close integration of material innovation and processing technology.”

Elgar Straub, Managing Director of VDMA Textile Care, Fabric and Leather Technologies, adds:
“Only through precise, state-of-the-art processing technologies – tailored to the respective fields of application – do innovative materials become high-performance, standards-compliant and production-ready apparel solutions.”Key Innovations Showcased

Three standout examples presented at the opening press conference illustrate the diversity of innovation:

  • Molotov Cocktail Protective Suit (Saxon Textile Research Institute)
Designed for special forces operating in high-risk environments for up to ten hours, the suit offers reliable protection against fire attacks while remaining lightweight and breathable. It uses an optimised fibre blend, advanced yarn and fabric construction, and an innovative weaving process.
  • Warp Knitted UV Protection Jacket (KARL MAYER Textilmaschinen GmbH)
Provides UV protection 50+ without chemical finishing. The protection is achieved purely through a dense warp-knitted structure. Despite its performance, the fabric remains highly breathable, lightweight, cooling, soft, and shape-retaining while meeting modern design expectations.
  • Royotec Timeless: GRS Multi-Norm PPE Fabrics (Tejidos Royo)
A multi-risk fabric for CE-certified PPE featuring inherent flame resistance and 25% recycled content. The protective properties remain intact after 100 industrial washes, while elasticity and service life are significantly enhanced.

Live demonstrations at “Performance Apparels on Stage” will be held multiple times daily from 21 to 24 April.
