Tamil Nadu Highlights Textile Investments, MoUs and Industry Opportunities at Bharat Tex 2026
State pavilion, investment presentations and industry collaborations draw attention from domestic and overseas textile stakeholders at Bharat Tex 2026.
Tamil Nadu recorded significant participation at Bharat Tex 2026 with the involvement of more than 30 textile and apparel manufacturers, the signing of multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and support from two Ministries. The event, held in New Delhi, attracted around 6,000 overseas buyers along with a large number of domestic visitors.
Tamil Nadu participated in Bharat Tex 2026 with more than 30 textile and apparel manufacturers, supported by two Ministries and several industry organisations. The State's presence included the signing of multiple MoUs, investment discussions and presentations showcasing its textile sector.
According to K.M. Subramanian, President of the Tiruppur Exporters Association, the participation of overseas buyers generated encouraging business prospects for garment manufacturers from Tiruppur.
“The fair will certainly transform into an international event in the coming years. For the garment manufacturers who participated from Tiruppur, the response from overseas buyers is promising and will turn into orders,” said K.M. Subramanian, President of the Tiruppur Exporters Association.
Research Collaboration Opens New Opportunities
The Southern India Textile Research Association (SITRA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Woolmark Company for a research project focused on promoting the use of wool as a blend with cotton.
The collaboration is expected to create opportunities for fibre diversification in Tamil Nadu, where efforts are underway to explore fibres beyond cotton.
Investment Focus and Technical Textiles
Minister for Industries P. Keerthana and Minister for Textiles and Handlooms M. Vijay Balaji participated in the exhibition and held discussions with potential investors.
According to an official from the Industries Department, the State has already secured investors for nearly 300 acres of the 600-odd acres planned for the PM MITRA textile park in Virudhunagar, while additional investments are expected to be finalised shortly.
The official also stated that the Tamil Nadu Government is focusing on technical textiles, with investors eligible for 50% capital subsidy for investments in this segment. Tamil Nadu currently accounts for 8% share in technical textiles and is working towards further development of the sector.
Tamil Nadu Pavilion Attracts Visitors
The Tamil Nadu pavilion received more than 400 visitors during the exhibition.
Principal Secretary for Textiles and Handlooms T.N. Venkatesh delivered a presentation on the State's textile value chain during the Tamil Nadu session.
Commenting on the State's participation, T.N. Venkatesh said:
“Overall, the participation of the Government of Tamil Nadu in Bharat Tex 2026 significantly enhanced the State’s visibility among national and international stakeholders, strengthened industry connect, showcased Tamil Nadu’s investment potential and traditional handloom excellence, and created opportunities for future partnerships and investments in the textile and technical textile sectors.”
