Tamil Nadu Excludes Dyeing Units from Salem Integrated Textile Park Following Government Order

Industrial land at Jahir Ammapalayam to be reserved only for textile-related industries; SIPCOT directed to identify alternate locations for zero liquid discharge dyeing units.

The Tamil Nadu government has decided not to establish dyeing units at the Salem Integrated Textile Park located at Jahir Ammapalayam, according to District Collector K. Elambahavath.

The State government had identified 119 acres of land at Jahir Ammapalayam for setting up an integrated textile park at a cost of ₹880 crore. As part of the original proposal, dyeing units were to function under the Salem Yarn Colouring Park (SYCP) along with a Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP).

Residents and farmers from nearly 40 villages surrounding the proposed site opposed the project, stating that the colouring park could affect groundwater and agricultural land. The protests continued for over a year, resulting in the textile park works being halted.

Speaking during the farmers' grievance redress meeting at the Salem Collectorate, District Collector K. Elambahavath said that the change has been made in response to demands raised by the public and farmers. He stated that dyeing units will not be established in the Integrated Textile Park.

The Collector said that, under the government order (G.O.) dated July 22, 2026, the SYCP land measuring 110.53 acres has been redesignated as Salem Integrated Textile Park Private Limited.

The land has been allotted on a 99-year lease for establishing the integrated textile park. As per the government order, all industrial land within the park will be reserved exclusively for textile-related industries.

The Collector also stated that SIPCOT has been directed to identify alternative locations for setting up zero liquid discharge dyeing units, in accordance with the government order.

Farmers who attended the grievance redress meeting welcomed the announcement.
