TAI Mumbai Unit Mourns the Passing of Dr. Chidambaram Bose
Trustee and President Emeritus of The Textile Association (India), Mumbai Unit, remembered for his leadership and contributions to the Indian texturising industry
The Textile Association (India), Mumbai Unit, has mourned the passing of Dr. Chidambaram Bose (08.03.1951–07.09.2026), Trustee and President Emeritus of TAI, Mumbai Unit. He passed away on 7th September 2026 at the age of 76 years, following a career spanning several decades in the textile industry and professional service to the Association.
Dr. Bose served TAI Mumbai Unit as Vice President from 2003 to 2005, President from 2005 to 2017, and Trustee since 2010. He was also recognised by TAI with the Hon. FTA and Service Gold Medal and, in 2026, received the Distinguished Service Award from TAI, Mumbai Unit.
Leadership at The Textile Association (India)
Dr. Bose was a key functionary of The Textile Association (India) and served the Mumbai Unit for several decades.
During his tenure as President, he contributed to the development of the Mumbai Unit and provided leadership and guidance to its activities. His contribution to the redevelopment of Santosh Building was also noted as a significant part of his association with TAI.
His service was recognised through the Hon. FTA and Service Gold Medal awarded by TAI, followed by the Distinguished Service Award from TAI, Mumbai Unit, in 2026 for his services and contributions to the Association.
Contribution to Indian Texturising Industry
Dr. Bose was also associated with the development of the Indian texturising industry. He organised five International Seminars on Texturising at Silvassa, described as the first of their kind in India.
The seminars provided the Indian texturising industry with international exposure and focused on areas including quality, productivity and technological awareness. Dr. Bose was widely regarded as a pioneer in texturising.
Career as a Textile Technologist
An accomplished textile technologist and professional, Dr. Bose held B.Tech. (Textiles), M.Tech. (Textiles), F.I.E. and Chartered Engineer (FTA) qualifications.
He began his career with Hindon River Mills (DCM) as Assistant Spinning Master (Product Development). He subsequently worked with organisations including Sir Padampat Research Centre, J.K. Synthetics, Kota, Urvi Chemicals and Nirlon Synthetics Limited.
Dr. Bose joined Reliance Industries Limited, where he served as Senior Vice President from 1995 to 2009. During this period, he played a pivotal role in developing the world’s largest, state-of-the-art texturising facility in 1995.
As Plant Incharge, he led the Silvassa plant, which gained recognition for cost-effective operations, yarn quality, productivity and environmentally responsible practices.
International Technical Operations and Technology Development
Following Reliance Industries Limited’s acquisition of Trevira, Germany, Dr. Bose led its technical operations across Germany, Denmark and Poland for three years.
He also led the acquisition and record-time transfer of UNIFI Ireland’s complete texturising and polyester facilities to India under Reliance Industries Limited.
Dr. Bose pioneered Air Texturising Technology in India in 1976, including the design and development of machines and process parameters aimed at improving yarn quality.
He developed pilot machines for IIT Delhi, Sir Padampat Research Centre, Kota, and PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore. He also contributed to industrial fabric development at Nirlon Ltd.
His patents covered innovations in Air Texturising Machines, Processes, Air Textured Blended Filament Yarns, and Nylon Coloration during spinning.
Remembered Across the Textile Fraternity
Beyond his professional and organisational contributions, Dr. Bose was remembered for his humility, accessibility, kindness and compassion. His support and guidance earned him respect and affection among textile professionals.
The Mumbai Unit described his passing as a significant loss to the Association and the wider textile community, noting his longstanding role as a pillar of the organisation.
Condolence Meeting Held in Mumbai
A Condolence Meeting in memory of Dr. C. Bose was held on 11th September 2026 at the TAI, Mumbai Unit Office. Members and well-wishers gathered to pay tribute to Dr. Bose and remember his contributions and legacy.
The Textile Association (India), Mumbai Unit, expressed its deepest condolences to Dr. Bose’s bereaved family and prayed for peace for the departed soul and strength for his family and loved ones.
