State Forms Dedicated Textile Cell, Launches First-Ever Textile Export Action Plans
The Rajasthan Industries Department has established a dedicated state-level textile cell and prepared its first state and district-level textile export action plans to strengthen textile exports. The initiative aims to support textile clusters, identify industry bottlenecks and improve export competitiveness across the state.
The Industries Department of Rajasthan has formed a dedicated state-level textile cell as part of its efforts to increase textile exports and strengthen the state's textile ecosystem. Alongside the new cell, the department has prepared its first-ever state and district-level textile export action plans.
According to a senior official from the department, the textile cell will work closely with textile manufacturing units to identify operational bottlenecks, encourage the adoption of modern technologies and facilitate exports.
Shikhar Agarwal, ACS, Industries, said:
“The cell will conduct field visits to industrial clusters, engage with entrepreneurs, exporters and industry experts, study leading textile hubs in India and abroad, and coordinate participation in national and international textile exhibitions. It will also collect and analyse sectoral data to support policy decisions.”
District-Level Action Plans Cover 11 Textile-Producing Districts
The district export plans cover 11 textile-producing districts, including seven "Champion Districts" identified by the Union Government:
- Ajmer
- Bhilwara
- Jaipur
- Banswara
- Chittorgarh
- Jodhpur
- Kota
The plans also include four "aspirational districts":
- Sriganganagar
- Hanumangarh
- Nagaur
- Churu
Export Strategy Aligned with National Target
Rajasthan has aligned its textile export strategy with the Union Government's target of achieving $100 billion in textile and apparel exports by 2030.
The state has set its own objective of increasing textile exports by three to four times during the same period.
Textiles Remain a Key Export Sector
Textiles continue to contribute significantly to Rajasthan's exports. During 2024-25, the state exported goods worth more than Rs 97,171 crore, of which textiles and allied products accounted for around Rs 13,500 crore, representing more than 13% of total exports.
To encourage investment, the Rajasthan Government is also offering incentives to textile projects by classifying the sector as a thrust area under the Rajasthan Investment Promotion Scheme (RIPS).
Strong Manufacturing Base
Rajasthan has a well-established raw material base and textile manufacturing ecosystem. The state contributes nearly 47% of India's wool production, making it the country's largest wool producer.
It also ranked fifth in cotton production during 2024-25, with an output of about 1.845 million bales.
According to the report, more than 1,800 textile and apparel units are currently operating across Rajasthan.
