SIMA Urges Tamil Nadu Chief Minister to Address Power-Related Issues Affecting Textile Mills

Industry body seeks relief on rooftop solar charges, deemed demand arrears, and power tariffs

Representatives of the Southern India Mills Association (SIMA) met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay and requested intervention to resolve power-related issues affecting textile manufacturing units in the state.

The association submitted demands related to rooftop solar power charges, deemed demand arrears, electricity tariffs, and implementation of textile sector initiatives.

According to the report, the SIMA delegation urged the Tamil Nadu government to withdraw network charges for rooftop solar power generation in line with the High Court order.

The association also requested that the collection of arrears related to deemed demand charges be kept in abeyance until a final order is issued by the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity.

Under the demand charges issue, SIMA sought a freeze on demand charges at the existing rate of ₹608 per kVA per month for three years.

The delegation further appealed for the allocation of adequate funds and speedy implementation of the PM Mitra Park Scheme and the Tamil Nadu Integrated Textile Policy, among other measures.
