Shreedhar Spinners Scales Production with LMW’s Integrated Spinning Technology

The Mumbai-headquartered spinner has expanded its installed capacity to 28,600 spindles, with a further 7,296 spindles in the pipeline, supported by a two-decade technical partnership with LMW.

Shreedhar Spinners Limited, headquartered in Mumbai with a manufacturing plant in Amravati, Maharashtra, has built its spinning operations around a long-standing technical partnership with Lakshmi Machine Works (LMW). Using an integrated LMW production line spanning blow room to ring frame, the company produces carded and combed compact yarn across a count range from coarse 10s Ne to 30s Ne.

The partnership has supported the company's approach to manufacturing: developing a single production setup capable of serving a broad range of yarn requirements and expanding capacity in phases.

Building a Flexible Spinning Operation

Promoted by a team with three decades of experience in yarn trading, Shreedhar Spinners entered manufacturing with the objective of establishing a capital-efficient plant capable of producing multiple yarn counts rather than concentrating on a single product.

Managing Director Dharmendra Goyal and Director Vishal Agrawal, whose association with LMW spans more than 20 years, have led the project's execution and manufacturing development.

The Amravati plant began operations with 18,000 spindles. From the outset, the company sought to accommodate a broad product range within its first phase. As Goyal explained, the objective was to “encompass as much as we can into the first unit.”

Integrated Machinery from Blow Room to Ring Frame

LMW was selected to supply the first unit's integrated spinning line, covering the process from blow room to ring frame. According to the company, this arrangement provided a single machinery partner across the sequential production stages, supported by technology updates and technical assistance.

The machinery installed across Units 1 and 2 includes:

Machinery

Blow room line

Bale Plucker Line

LC363/361 and LC9S

Breaker draw frame

Lap former

LH20 S

Comber

LK69 M/S

Unit 1 and Unit 2 Phase-1 have been commissioned and are in production. Unit 2 Phase-2 is planned as the next expansion for 2026.

Shreedhar Spinners also cited LMW's delivery of the second unit within three months from shipment to commercial production as an important factor in its confidence in further expansion.

Taking on Compact Spinning at Coarser Counts

Compact yarn is valued for its smoothness, strength and low hairiness and is commonly associated with medium and fine counts. Shreedhar Spinners set out to produce compact yarn at coarser counts, where the heavier fibre strand presents additional drafting and compacting challenges.

The company also chose to scale up carded compact spinning without relying on combing as a fallback. According to the account, the team retained the provision to add combers if required but ultimately did not need to do so.

Agrawal described the decision as a willingness to “take this risk.” The resulting operation enabled the mill to produce coarse-count compact yarn at a scale that, according to the company, relatively few Indian spinners had achieved.

Technical Support and Collaboration

Shreedhar Spinners' leadership has highlighted ongoing technical assistance as a key element of the partnership.

Managing Director Dharmendra Goyal said:

Managing Director Dharmendra Goyal

“What you need more is the handholding, and that is required on a continual basis. The sales & service teams, the technique that is required; that backup was available from LMW, which really gave us the confidence to dare, and so we did, and we did achieve.”

— Dharmendra Goyal, Managing Director, Shreedhar Spinners Limited

Director Vishal Agrawal also emphasised the importance of collaboration in translating machinery capabilities into production results.

“The partnership and understanding, which is there, and which allows you to get results, is more important than the initial technology… sometimes the industry is not geared up to use the technology which is available with the machine.”

The company attributes the development of its carded compact plant in 2021–22 to a combination of LMW's technical guidance, Universal's engineering support during ramp-up and its own decision to pursue the project despite the risks involved.

CFO Varesh Goyal summarised the company's assessment of the results:

“Consistent machine performance, backed by reliable technical support, has helped us achieve benchmark productivity and produce superior-quality yarn, while keeping our overall cost of ownership highly competitive.”

Productivity Across a Broad Count Range

Shreedhar Spinners measures ring-spinning output in grams per spindle per shift (GPSS), a standard measure of productivity. The company reports benchmark GPSS performance on its LMW carded and combed compact platforms across counts ranging from 10s to 30s Ne.

For the company, productivity is linked to both output and yarn quality. Agrawal described the operating objective as “productivity with quality brings down your cost of operation.”

The company's ring-frame base has expanded from 10 machines at Unit 1 in 2022 to 16 following Unit 2 Phase-1 in 2025. Unit 2 Phase-2 is planned to add a further four frames.

Capacity Expansion and Future Plans

Shreedhar Spinners' installed spindle capacity currently stands at 28,600, with another 7,296 spindles in the pipeline. The expansion follows the initial 18,000-spindle Unit 1 and subsequent development of Unit 2.

As a publicly listed company, Shreedhar Spinners operates with a focus on maintaining performance over successive reporting periods. Goyal said the company must “perform every day, every month, every quarter, every year.”

The company's growth trajectory reflects its focus on flexible production, phased capacity expansion and continued technical collaboration with LMW.
