SHIMA SEIKI Unveils Dedicated P-CAM® R Cutting Machine for Car Seat Production

New Dual-Head Model Demonstrated at Private Exhibition in Kariya with Focus on Automotive Manufacturing Applications
Leading Japanese textile solutions provider SHIMA SEIKI MFG., LTD. introduced a dedicated car seat production version of its P-CAM® R multi-ply computerized cutting machine during a two-day private exhibition held on Thursday, July 2nd and Friday, July 3rd at the Kariya City Industrial Promotion Center in Aichi Prefecture. The event marked the first public demonstration of the specialized model designed for automotive seat manufacturing.
Leading Japanese textile solutions provider SHIMA SEIKI MFG., LTD. showcased a dedicated version of its P-CAM® R multi-ply computerized cutting machine for car seat production for the first time during a private exhibition held over two days at the Kariya City Industrial Promotion Center in Aichi Prefecture.
Located in the center of Japan's automotive industry, Kariya City was selected as the venue for unveiling the machine designed for automotive manufacturing applications. The exhibition attracted 120 companies and approximately 260 visitors over two days, recording the highest attendance for a private exhibition hosted by SHIMA SEIKI.
SHIMA SEIKI entered the computerized cutting machine market in 1991 with the launch of its P-CAM® series. The company stated that the machines established a customer base based on productivity and reliability, and the P-CAM® series currently holds the largest share of Japan's domestic computerized cutting machine market.
In 2022, SHIMA SEIKI developed the next-generation flagship P-CAM® R with the objective of providing cutting technology for the global market. A prototype was presented at the JIAM 2022 Japan International Apparel Machinery & Textile Industry Trade Show, followed by the production model at JIAM 2024.
Building on the P-CAM® R platform, the company has now developed a version specifically designed for car seat manufacturing.

Features of the Dedicated Car Seat Model
The dedicated car seat production version incorporates a dual-head design, allowing simultaneous cutting and drilling to improve the efficiency of drilling operations commonly required during car seat manufacturing.
The machine also features a drill dust suction and ejection system designed to reduce the scattering of drilling debris during the pickup stage.
For seat materials containing urethane foam cushioning layers, the system automatically adjusts suction pressure during multi-ply cutting. According to SHIMA SEIKI, excessive suction can compress the material unevenly and affect product quality, while the automatic adjustment function optimizes cutting performance for different fabric types.
Live Demonstrations at the Exhibition
During the exhibition, visitors observed live demonstrations of the machine's cutting and drilling functions. Test-cutting sessions were also conducted, allowing visitors to bring their own materials to evaluate processing quality, fabric compatibility and integration with existing production lines.
In addition to machine demonstrations, panel displays explaining the features of the dedicated car seat production version were presented to provide further technical information.
Global Availability
SHIMA SEIKI plans to expand overseas sales of the P-CAM® R, including the dedicated car seat production version, making the technology available in international markets.
