The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has confirmed the near-term science-based emission reduction targets submitted by Qlar Group GmbH. With this validation, Qlar has set defined benchmarks for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Scopes 1, 2 and 3 under the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol and has made emission reduction a binding element of its corporate strategy.

Qlar has committed to cut absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2033, using 2023 as the base year. In addition, the company has pledged to lower absolute Scope 3 emissions by 36% over the same period. “The validation of our near-term targets by the SBTi is a key step for us in consistently aligning our emissions reduction with science-based criteria and managing it in a binding manner,” says Dr Jörg Ulrich, CEO of the Qlar Group. “It increases transparency for customers, partners and employees and makes our progress measurable and traceable against clear targets.”

The SBTi is a corporate climate action organisation that supports companies and financial institutions worldwide in contributing to efforts against climate change. It develops standards, tools and guidance and provides a framework to enable measurable emission reductions.

The validated 2033 targets form part of Qlar’s broader sustainability strategy. The company is concentrating on emission-related measures along its own value chain while also advancing efficient and resource-saving process solutions for customers. Qlar has set a long-term objective of achieving net zero emissions across all scopes by 2050.

By 2033, the company plans to source 100% of its electricity requirements from renewable energy. Alongside emission reductions, its sustainability focus includes lowering water consumption and implementing responsible waste and supply chain management practices.

As a provider of industrial processing technologies, Qlar supports customers in sectors such as green steel and cement production, recycling and battery cell manufacturing by offering solutions designed to reduce resource use and emissions. One example cited is the MultiFlex Feeder, which lowers energy consumption in cement production and enables the use of non-recyclable waste materials as alternative energy sources.
