RoGO Communications Partners with AugSense to Integrate Edge AI into Satellite Platform

Collaboration adds edge AI analytics, sensor fusion and predictive intelligence to support firefighters, first responders and military operations in communications-denied environments
RoGO Communications has announced a technology partnership with Augmented Sense Technologies (AugSense) to integrate edge artificial intelligence capabilities into its DropBlock satellite communications platform. The collaboration is designed to provide AI-powered situational awareness, predictive analytics and sensor fusion for firefighters, first responders, military personnel and remote operators working in environments without cellular connectivity.
The partnership combines RoGO’s satellite communications platform with AugSense’s edge AI technology to process and analyse data directly on devices without requiring cloud connectivity.
RoGO, founded to develop lifesaving technology for wildland firefighters and first responders, developed the DropBlock platform to support operations in cellular-denied and remote environments. The ruggedized, portable system provides real-time GPS tracking, weather telemetry, IoT sensor data and tactical messaging through satellite communications.
AugSense develops edge AI systems for communications-denied and contested environments. The company received first place in the Air Force Research Laboratory-sponsored HUSTLE Accelerator, earning a $155,000 award to advance edge AI for command, control and communications applications.
Under the partnership, the companies will develop edge AI-powered sensor fusion, Team Awareness Kit (TAK) ecosystem capabilities and predictive analytics for firefighters, disaster recovery teams, military personnel and other first responders operating during All Hazards emergencies, including hurricanes, earthquakes and floods. RoGO and AugSense demonstrated the integrated capabilities during the annual Special Operation Forces (SOF Week) convention in Tampa last month.
The companies stated that wildland firefighters, search-and-rescue teams and military personnel often work in remote locations where conventional communications infrastructure is unavailable. RoGO's DropBlock platform is currently deployed by wildland fire agencies, providing real-time GPS tracking, weather information, IoT sensor telemetry and tactical messaging through satellite links. The partnership aims to enhance these capabilities by enabling AI-driven intelligence processing directly at the edge.
As part of the integration, RoGO will incorporate AugSense's modular, platform-agnostic edge AI engine into the DropBlock platform. The technology processes and combines multi-modal sensor data on-device without cloud connectivity, allowing AI-generated intelligence products to convert raw sensor information into actionable insights, including predictions related to wildfire spread and other safety threats.
Key capabilities of the integrated platform include:
- Edge AI Processing: AugSense's AI engine runs workloads directly on edge devices using neuromorphic and spiking neural network architectures, enabling intelligence processing in power-constrained environments without cloud infrastructure.
- Multi-Modal Sensor Fusion: The system combines information from RF, weather, geospatial, physiological and chemical/biological sensors into a unified intelligence view.
- TAK Integration and Development: The partnership includes plugins for the Android Team Awareness Kit (ATAK) and the broader TAK ecosystem, allowing AI-generated intelligence to be displayed within a common operational picture across teams connected through the DropBlock network.
- Predictive Analytics: Machine learning models analyse sensor telemetry to forecast weather changes, equipment failures, threat patterns and wildfire behaviour.
The companies noted that AugSense's HUSTLE Accelerator award focused on edge AI for contested and degraded operational environments, aligning with the deployment conditions of RoGO's DropBlock technology. They said the partnership addresses the need for intelligent processing when cloud connectivity is unavailable.
“We built DropBlock to solve the communications problem in places where nothing else works—and our customers in wildfire, search-and-rescue, and defense have validated that mission,” said RoGO founder and CEO Rod Goossen. “The next step is making that link smarter. With AugSense’s edge AI, we’re not just transmitting data—we’re transmitting intelligence. That’s a game-changer for an incident commander who needs to make a life-or-death call with seconds to spare.”
RoGO also announced that a new mobile phone application is expected to be released in Q3 2026, enabling point-to-point communications among DropBlocks and firefighter crews while displaying the location of firefighting assets and fire weather information.
AugSense Co-Founder and President Anant Singh said, “RoGO has already solved the hardest problem in denied environments: getting reliable communications where nothing else reaches. What we bring is the ability to turn that link into an intelligent pipeline. Our edge AI processes and fuses sensor data on device, so operators get real-time predictions and a unified picture, not just raw data points. Combined with RoGO’s proven satellite backbone and our research in contested environments, this partnership delivers AI-powered situational awareness to the people who need it most, in the places where it’s hardest to get.”
According to the companies, the combined platform is intended for several operational scenarios. In wildland firefighting, AI-generated predictions of wind shifts and fire behaviour can be transmitted through RoGO's satellite network to support incident commanders. For search-and-rescue operations, fused sensor data and intelligent mapping overlays enable coordination among distributed teams without cellular infrastructure. In defence and special operations, the system delivers multi-sensor intelligence and TAK-integrated common operational pictures through satellite backhaul in communications-degraded environments.
