Daniel Lippuner to become CEO from November 1, 2026, while Carl Illi will serve as Chairman of the Board until April 2027
Rieter has announced a change in its executive leadership, with Thomas Oetterli stepping down as CEO effective October 31, 2026. He will also hand over the Chairmanship of the Board of Directors, with Daniel Lippuner appointed as the company’s new CEO from November 1, 2026.
Oetterli said the decision follows the implementation of the Next Level performance program, structural measures to consolidate sites and Rieter’s acquisition of Barmag. The separation of the CEO and Chairman of the Board functions had been planned since Oetterli took office.
Daniel Lippuner to take over as CEO
Daniel Lippuner brings international leadership experience and knowledge of the textile machinery and components industry to the role.
He previously served as CEO of the Saurer Group and as Head of Oerlikon Textile Components, where he led businesses across the value chain covering spinning machines, yarn processing and textile components.
Lippuner also served as Chairman of the Board and co-owner of Heberlein Technology, maintaining a connection with the chemical fiber industry.
His experience includes transformation, technology and quality management, operational leadership and Asian markets. According to Rieter, these areas are relevant to the company’s established short-staple fiber business and its newly acquired man-made fiber business.
Carl Illi to serve as Chairman
Carl Illi will assume the role of Chairman of the Board until the next Annual General Meeting on April 14, 2027.
Illi has been a member of the Rieter Board of Directors since 2017 and is a recognized textile industry expert.
The Rieter Board of Directors thanked Thomas Oetterli for his commitment and contributions to the strategic and operational development of the Group. The Board said it is convinced that the measures initiated will strengthen the Group’s competitiveness and create a foundation to benefit from a future market recovery.
Barmag acquisition expands Rieter's business
Rieter acquired Barmag in February 2026, expanding its traditional short-staple fiber business into the man-made fibers segment.
The company said the transaction strengthens its focus on technology leadership, opens additional growth opportunities and creates a broader basis for digital solutions in the textile industry.
