Raymond Introduces Hemp-Based Fabrics to Premium Cotton Shirting Segment

The new collection features four fabric constructions combining hemp with Tencel™, cotton and bamboo, alongside pure hemp, targeting formal and smart-casual wear.

Raymond Lifestyle Limited has introduced a new collection of hemp shirting fabrics in the premium shirting category. Launched on 16 October 2026, the collection includes four constructions developed through the company's fibre engineering, design and finishing capabilities, expanding its range of materials for formal and smart-casual clothing.

Four Hemp Fabric Constructions

Raymond's collection includes Pure Hemp, Hemp with Tencel™, Hemp with Cotton and Hemp with Bamboo. Each construction is designed to offer different fabric characteristics and applications.

According to the company, pure hemp offers bright colours, durability and breathability, with the fabric softening with every wash. The hemp and Tencel™ blend is designed to provide drape and a soft next-to-skin finish, while the hemp-cotton blend combines familiarity with everyday breathability. The hemp-bamboo construction offers moisture-wicking properties and a luxurious hand feel.

The collection is intended for use across formal and smart-casual clothing rather than being limited to a single occasion. It is available in contemporary colours, patterns and designs and has recently been launched through trade channels.

Sustainability and Fibre Selection

Raymond said the introduction of hemp reflects the growing importance of material selection and manufacturing practices in the textile and apparel industry. The company noted that domestic and international apparel brands have increasingly adopted sustainability commitments, including a focus on the fibres used in their products.

Commenting on the launch, Anupam Dikshit, Chief Business Officer, Shirting Business, Raymond Lifestyle Limited, said: "Sustainability in textiles is no longer a matter of positioning. Garment brands have moved from voluntary sustainability commitments to material-mix targets and in Raymond, as a leader in the fabric industry, there is an increased commitment towards sustainability for conservation of resources and protection of the environment. We manufacture fabric for international & domestic fashion brands as well as the premium domestic fabric market. Hemp needs significantly less water than conventional cotton, in a world where there is severe water constrains, grows rapidly and does so without dependence on pesticides or fertilisers. For a company that has thrived in this industry for over a century, sustainability is a way of life and we take our position as a leader very seriously in Innovation, Quality & Sustainability."

Hemp in Premium Shirting

The company said hemp's breathable microstructure supports natural thermoregulation in Indian summer conditions. It also highlighted the fibre's resistance to degradation, noting that it can improve with wear rather than deteriorating.

Raymond said the Indian domestic fabric market has shown appreciation for hemp's look and feel, including in value-added blends, and that the material has also found acceptance among younger consumers.

The launch adds hemp-based constructions to Raymond's premium shirting range as the company continues to develop fabric options for domestic and international apparel brands.
