Pepperfry has released the third edition of its Home Report Card, offering a data-led snapshot of how Indian households purchased furniture and home décor in 2025. Published on 19 January 2026, the report draws on purchase behaviour across more than 700 cities and points to a gradual shift in how homes are being upgraded—moving away from one-time renovations toward continuous, room-by-room improvements throughout the year.

The Pepperfry Home Report Card 2025 indicates that home-related categories saw nearly double the transaction intensity of furniture, with storage solutions, kitchen utilities, organisers, and lighting accounting for a significant share of demand. In cities such as Bengaluru, Pune, and Jaipur, home goods represented more than half of total home-related purchases, underscoring a growing preference for incremental upgrades.

Living rooms emerged as the most socially expressive areas within Indian homes. Living room furniture recorded higher engagement across categories, reflecting planned lifestyle-driven upgrades rather than necessity-based buying. The report also notes shorter replacement cycles, with sofas being replaced approximately every four years. In bedrooms, queen-size beds and mattresses continued to dominate demand across regions.

According to Ashish Shah, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Pepperfry,
“Excited to release this third edition of Pepperfry’s Home Report Card 2025. As always, the report isn’t about forecasting trends, it reflects behaviour across millions of households based on the purchases done on Pepperfry; showing how homes are becoming more personal, practical, and thoughtfully built over time, the report is filled with tons of trivia around regional likes and preferences as usual. With advent of many D2C Brands launching this year on Pepperfry, we see customers getting more discerning and buying products that are unique and design-led. This year Pepperfry will continue to pursue its strong ambition of becoming the defacto ‘Fashion for Home’ destination for consumers and brands alike.”

The report highlights regional diversity in buying behaviour. Shubbam Sharrma, Chief Growth Officer, Pepperfry, said:
“What Indians buy for their homes today is deeply influenced by where they live, how they work, and how their lifestyles are changing. The Pepperfry Home Report Card 2025 brings these insights to life, combining data, trends, and trivia to paint a comprehensive picture of home buying across India. The report also inspires us to make the most relevant supply available based on new trends for our customers this year.”

From a marketing and category perspective, the findings suggest a shift from episodic purchases to ongoing home-building decisions. Kulbhushan Atkar, Head of Marketing and Furniture Category, Pepperfry, noted:
“What Pepperfry’s Home Report Card 2025 clearly highlights is a shift from episodic home buying to continuous home-building. Consumers are no longer waiting for festivals or a new home to act, they’re upgrading in smaller, more assured decisions through the year.”

Lighting stood out as a key design category in 2025, with hanging lights and wall lamps outperforming soft décor in metro markets. Tier-2 cities contributed more than 40% of overall home goods demand, with locations such as Goa, Nagpur, Kochi, and Bhopal showing strong interest in ambience and functionality.

Work-from-home trends continued to influence furniture choices, with office chairs emerging as the fastest-moving furniture category across both metro and Tier-2 cities. In urban markets, mandirs also ranked among leading home categories, reflecting the integration of devotional spaces within contemporary homes.

Overall, the Home Report Card 2025 suggests that Indian consumers are prioritising practicality, comfort, and gradual improvement, investing in their living spaces through consistent and considered decisions rather than one-time upgrades.
