Patricia Urquiola to Expand Heimtextil Trend Space with New Design Elements in 2027

Designer will develop two new sculptures alongside the “Bambi” figure to interpret Heimtextil Trends 27/28 theme “The Performance of Everyday Living”

At Heimtextil 2027, the Trend Space will present the Heimtextil Trends 27/28, curated by Alcova, alongside new design elements by architect and designer Patricia Urquiola. Continuing a collaboration that enters its third year, Urquiola will present three sculptures in the Trend Space, including the existing “Bambi” figure and two new pieces created specifically for Heimtextil.

The installation will interpret the trend theme “The Performance of Everyday Living” through Urquiola’s approach to materials, forms and design.

Alcova and Urquiola Collaborations Meet in Trend Space

Heimtextil’s two long-standing design partnerships will come together directly in the Trend Space for the first time in 2027.

Alcova is curating the Heimtextil Trends 27/28 under the theme “Home-Maxxing – The Performance of Everyday Living”. At the same time, Urquiola is developing her “Bambi” sculpture further as part of the Trend Space, bringing her material and design language into the trends presentation.

Both collaborations have evolved across several editions of Heimtextil and will now intersect within the 2027 Trend Space.

“Bambi” Evolves into a Family of Three Creatures

For Heimtextil 2027, Urquiola will build on the “Bambi” figure first presented in last year’s “among-all” installation. The hybrid silver creature will be accompanied by two new figures created specifically for Heimtextil.

The new pieces will build on the existing forms and materials while developing the concept further. They will also reflect Urquiola’s interpretation of “The Performance of Everyday Living”.

The evolution of “Bambi” has taken place across three Heimtextil editions. In 2025, Urquiola presented “Bambi” digitally on a monitor. For Heimtextil 2026, the figure was transformed into a physical element. In 2027, the concept will expand with two additional figures.

“For Heimtextil 2027, I return with a family of three hybrid creatures: the third chapter of a research that keeps evolving, one edition at a time. Together, the pieces trace a journey – from digital imagery to physical presence – and open a new chapter in material experimentation, where textile becomes a living, evolving form,” says Patricia Urquiola.

Materiality and Human Connection

According to Alcova, Urquiola’s contribution has a strong connection with the “Hyper Presence” trend direction, which places physical presence, material character and human connection at the centre.

The installation represents a counterpoint within the trends by highlighting objects that do not necessarily need to measure, accompany or optimise everyday life, but can instead create an impact through material, touch and comfort.

Connections can also be found with the other trend directions, “Staged Competence” and “Inside, Out”.

One example is the material used for “Bambi”, Ohoskin. Although its metallised surface gives it a technical, industrial and futuristic appearance, the material is made from by-products of Sicilian oranges.

For Alcova, this contrast between the material’s technical appearance and its natural origin contributes to a more human and approachable character.
