Padma Shri Rajinder Gupta, Chairman Emeritus of Trident Group, has been elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Punjab. His appointment is expected to significantly benefit Punjab’s industrial and agricultural landscape while bringing renewed momentum to India’s textile industry.
Padma Shri Rajinder Gupta, Chairman Emeritus of Trident Group — one of India’s most prominent diversified conglomerates — has been elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Punjab. This milestone reflects the state’s recognition of his remarkable contributions to industrial expansion, job creation, and social progress over several decades.
Shri Gupta’s induction into the Rajya Sabha is anticipated to boost Punjab’s growth across sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and small enterprises. On a national scale, his leadership and insights are expected to strengthen the textile sector through innovation, policy advocacy, and skill development. With his extensive experience in manufacturing, sustainability, and policy frameworks, Shri Gupta is set to open new avenues for MSME growth and sustainable industry practices across India.

A first-generation entrepreneur from Punjab, Shri Gupta founded Trident in the mid-1980s and transformed it into a USD 2 billion global enterprise. With a workforce of over 17,500 people and exports reaching more than 100 countries, Trident today stands among the world’s top integrated manufacturers of home textiles and paper, operating across Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, and international offices in the UK, USA, and Dubai.
Beyond his corporate success, Shri Gupta has made a profound social impact through the Trident Foundation, supporting education, healthcare, and skill-building initiatives in Punjab and Madhya Pradesh. His transparent business ethics are reflected in his personal tax contributions of over ₹779 crore in the past five years.
Over the years, Shri Gupta has been honoured with the Padma Shri (2007), the Entrepreneur of the Year Award (Ernst & Young, 2004), and the Distinguished Entrepreneurship Award (PHDCCI, 2005) — recognitions that highlight his belief that enterprise should empower society through employment, education, and skill advancement.
