Outlast Technologies Introduces Ventura, a High-Capacity Thermal-Regulating Lining for Technical Apparel

The lining features a heat-storage capacity exceeding 9,500 joules per square metre and uses phase-change technology to absorb and release heat as temperatures change.

Outlast Technologies has introduced Ventura, a high-capacity temperature-regulating lining designed for demanding apparel applications. The material is engineered to absorb excess body heat and release stored heat when conditions cool, helping maintain a more balanced microclimate inside garments without electronics, batteries or active controls.

With a heat-storage capacity exceeding 9,500 joules per square metre, tested according to DIN EN 16806-1, Ventura is designed for applications where changing temperatures and physical activity can affect wearer comfort.

Phase-Change Technology Supports Temperature Regulation

Ventura uses Outlast® Temperature Regulation technology, which incorporates capsules filled with natural wax into the material. When the wearer becomes too warm, the wax changes phase and absorbs excess heat. As conditions cool, the stored heat is released.

The process responds to temperature changes and is designed to help manage heat before heavy perspiration becomes the body's primary cooling response.

According to Outlast Technologies, Ventura combines an immediate cool-touch sensation with the ability to buffer temperature peaks over time. This distinguishes the material from surfaces that provide only a temporary cooling sensation.

Applications in Protective and Technical Apparel

Ventura is designed for garments exposed to changing activity levels, airflow and surrounding temperatures. Motorcycle clothing is one potential application.

During riding, airflow can help cool the body. When a rider stops, however, airflow decreases while heat can build up inside protective clothing. Ventura can absorb some of this excess heat during the stop and release it when airflow returns.

The technology may also be used in military equipment and protective clothing, where garments must provide their primary protective function while supporting wearer comfort during extended use.

Other potential applications include premium outerwear, workwear, coats, gloves and technical apparel. These uses may benefit from temperature regulation where physical exertion, changing environmental conditions or protective layers contribute to heat buildup.

Recycled Polyester Carrier and Product Specifications

Ventura combines its thermal-regulation function with a carrier made from 100% recycled polyester. The knitted carrier and functional layer are produced and applied in Germany.

The material's specified parameters include:

  • Heat-storage capacity: More than 9,500 J/m²
  • Weight: Approximately 250 g/m²
  • Width: 158 cm
  • Carrier composition: 100% recycled polyester
  • Care: Washable at 40°C
  • Intended use: Garment lining

The recycled-content claim applies specifically to the carrier. The defined specifications are intended to support apparel developers in evaluating the material for product integration, prototyping and production.

A Functional Lining for Performance Apparel

Ventura positions the lining as an active component of garment design rather than a passive inner layer. By combining phase-change temperature regulation with a recycled polyester carrier, the material offers apparel manufacturers an option for products requiring thermal comfort alongside technical performance.

The technology is intended to help manage temperature fluctuations in demanding conditions, with potential applications across protective clothing, workwear and other technical apparel categories.
