The nova-Institute, an independent research organisation based in Hürth, Germany, has announced a money-back guarantee for its commercial market and trend reports. The initiative allows customers to purchase reports with the option of receiving a refund if the content does not meet expectations, subject to a 10% administrative deduction.

The nova-Institute, a research institute focused on renewable carbon strategies, has introduced a money-back guarantee for all of its commercial market and trend reports. The measure comes amid increasing concerns about the quality and pricing of market research studies.

Under the new policy, customers can purchase reports with the assurance that if the content does not meet their expectations, they can request a refund. In such cases, clients must provide written feedback explaining what was missing, after which the institute will return the payment minus a 10% administrative fee. The initiative aims to increase transparency and build trust in the market research sector.

Michael Carus, Managing Director of nova-Institute in Germany, has found that the market is full of low quality and high-priced reports, especially in the field of renewable chemicals and polymers. “Of course, customers get disappointed and are not interested in another market report that they are sure will not meet their expectations,” he states. How can we make a difference? The nova-Institute's experts believe there is one simple way.

Based on its assessment of the quality of its research work, nova-Institute has decided to offer the refund option across its commercial reports. Customers who are not satisfied with a report’s quality can submit written feedback outlining the missing elements, after which the refund will be processed with a deduction for administrative costs.

Recent reports published by the institute include Mapping of Global Advanced Plastic Recycling Capacities, Mainstreaming Mass Balance and Attribution (MBA), Bio-based Building Blocks and Polymers – Global Capacities, Production and Trends 2024–2029, Alternative Naphtha – Technologies and Market, Status and Outlook, and Bio-based and Biodegradable Plastics Industries in China. The institute provides access to all its commercial reports through its publication portal.

Michael Carus sees no risk in offering the money-back guarantee on all commercial reports. “In general, confidence in the quality of market studies is low. However, we are confident that the vast majority of customers will be satisfied with our offerings. In recent years, we have built a worldwide network of experts who often have direct contact with the CEOs of production and processing companies. Our database tracks the activities of several hundred producers worldwide. We have the latest data and trends. Customers can now view the full report free of risk.” This positive approach is reinforced by positive customer feedback.

Alongside its publications, nova-Institute also organises in-house workshops, conducted either on-site or online, where it presents key findings from its reports and provides updated insights and data on specific areas of interest.

Since the mid-1990s, nova-Institute has focused on sustainability and renewable carbon cycles. The organisation supports companies, particularly those in the chemical, plastics, and materials sectors, in adopting renewable carbon sources such as biomass, carbon capture and utilisation (CCU), and recycling.

The institute participates in international innovation projects and provides science-based management consulting. Its multidisciplinary team evaluates technologies, raw materials, market opportunities, regulatory frameworks, and sustainability aspects to help companies transition from fossil-based resources to renewable carbon systems.

Approximately 50 specialists from different disciplines work at nova-Institute to support industrial transformation towards renewable carbon systems and climate-neutral production.
