NITRA Technical Campus Holds Guest Lecture on Air-Jet Weaving Technology

Industry session covers smart weaving, energy optimisation, AI-based systems and recent Picanol machine technologies

The Department of Textile Technology, NITRA Technical Campus, organised a guest lecture on “Innovations in Air-Jet Weaving Technology” on 10 September 2026 in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), NITRA Technical Campus. The session focused on modern air-jet weaving technology, recent developments in weaving machinery and their industrial applications.

Guest Lecture Focuses on Modern Air-Jet Weaving

Mr. Utkarsh Srivastava, Area Sales Manager, Picanol Weaving Machines, served as the resource person for the lecture. The session was aimed at providing students with practical and industry-oriented knowledge about developments in air-jet weaving technology and modern weaving machinery.

The programme began with a welcome address by Mr. Vivek Agarwal, Deputy Director and Dean, Department of Textile Technology. Mr. Ajay Shankar Joshi, Assistant Professor, formally introduced the resource person.

Session Covers Smart and Sustainable Weaving

During the lecture, Mr. Utkarsh Srivastava shared technical insights into modern air-jet weaving technology and its industrial applications. He discussed sustainable manufacturing and smart weaving, with particular emphasis on online monitoring systems, climate control and optimisation of energy consumption in air-jet weaving machines.

He also explained key features of the OmniPlus-i Connect Air-jet weaving machine and discussed advancements incorporated into modern Picanol weaving machines, including AI-based AirMaster, EcoBoost and EcoWaste.

The session covered how these technologies are used to improve machine performance, energy efficiency and sustainable production.

WeavePilot System and Digital Technologies Discussed

Mr. Srivastava further explained the WeavePilot system of the Picanol air-jet weaving machine and its role in supporting efficient machine operation and process control.

The discussion also introduced students to the integration of digital technologies, automation and intelligent monitoring systems into modern weaving machinery, with applications related to productivity, quality and resource efficiency.

Interactive Session for Students and Faculty

An interactive question-and-answer session was also conducted, with faculty members and students raising queries related to air-jet weaving. The resource person responded to the questions and shared practical experiences from the textile industry.

The programme saw participation from B.Tech Textile Technology students and faculty members, with more than 50 participants attending the session.
