NITRA Hosts National Conference on Innovations in Protective Textiles, Showcasing Sustainable and High-Performance Solutions

The National Conference on "Innovations in Protective Textiles" was grandly inaugurated at NITRA, Ghaziabad, by Sh. Giriraj Singh ji, Hon’ble Union Minister of Textiles, Government of India, on 9th April 2026, with the support of the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM). The conference marks a significant milestone in strengthening India’s position as a global hub for advanced, high-performance, and sustainable protective textiles. Ms Manisha Chatterjee, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India, was a special guest and chaired a session on the future of technical textiles.


A major highlight of the inaugural ceremony was the launch of a dedicated video documentary and an exclusive pictorial book capturing the remarkable journey of the milkweed plant—from flower to final textile product—demonstrating its potential as an eco-friendly and innovative resource for the future of protective textiles.
The conference featured insightful Special and Plenary Sessions chaired by senior government officials and industry leaders, focusing on key themes such as sustainable protective textiles, industry outlook, policy direction, and innovation-driven growth. Eminent speakers from leading organisations shared their perspectives on emerging opportunities and challenges in the sector.

The Technical Sessions further enriched the event with expert presentations on advancements in firefighter protective clothing, industrial safety textiles, impact-resistant materials, and specialised applications such as parachute fabrics and camouflage solutions. Researchers, academicians, and industry professionals actively engaged in knowledge sharing and discussions on cutting-edge developments.

The day concluded with a high-level panel discussion on “Sustainability and Innovation in Protective Textiles,” where distinguished panellists from industry, academia, and research institutions deliberated on future pathways, collaborative opportunities, and the role of sustainable practices in shaping the next generation of protective textiles.
