NIFT Mumbai Students Join National Convocation 2026 as President Droupadi Murmu Urges Focus on Sustainability and Innovation
A total of 315 graduating students from NIFT Mumbai participated in the Joint Convocation 2026, where academic excellence was recognised in the presence of the President of India and senior government officials.
A total of 315 students from the NIFT Mumbai campus participated in the NIFT Joint Convocation 2026, held at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi. The ceremony brought together graduating students from 18 NIFT campuses across the country to celebrate their academic achievements and mark the beginning of their professional careers.
The convocation was graced by the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, as the Chief Guest. Also present were Hon’ble Union Minister of Textiles Shri Giriraj Singh, Secretary (Textiles) Smt. Neelam Shami Rao, Director General, NIFT, Smt. Tanu Kashyap, IAS, members of the Board of Governors, Prof. Dr. Ajit Kumar Khare, Director, NIFT Mumbai, Directors of other NIFT campuses, and other dignitaries.
President Highlights Sustainability, Craft and Innovation
Addressing the graduating students, Hon'ble President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu encouraged NIFT graduates to remain globally competitive while staying connected to India's cultural roots and values.
She appreciated NIFT's Craft Cluster Initiative for supporting weavers and artisans through modern design and improved market linkages.
Emphasising sustainability, the President urged students to develop environmentally responsible products by using local materials and transforming textile waste into valuable resources. She also encouraged graduates to support traditional artisans and contribute towards the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 through innovation, social responsibility and inclusive growth.
Union Minister Encourages Graduates to Dream Big
Speaking at the ceremony, Hon’ble Union Minister of Textiles Shri Giriraj Singh urged the graduating students to dream big, work hard and become an integral part of India's journey towards Viksit Bharat.
Secretary (Textiles) Smt. Neelam Shami Rao congratulated the graduating students and encouraged them to continue learning and upgrading their skills to take advantage of emerging opportunities in the textile, fashion and creative industries.
NIFT Mumbai Students Receive Academic Honours
The Convocation Ceremony also recognised the achievements of graduating students from NIFT Mumbai through awards for academic excellence, creativity, innovation and professional merit.
The honours included:
- 10 Gold Medal Awards
- 31 Graduation Show Awards
- 16 Meritorious Awards
These awards recognised outstanding performance across various academic disciplines.
Degrees Conferred During Campus Ceremonies
During the national convocation, Director General, NIFT, Smt. Tanu Kashyap, IAS, administered the pledge to the graduating students and symbolically conferred their degrees.
Following the central ceremony in New Delhi, campus-wise degree distribution ceremonies were held, enabling graduates to formally receive their degrees alongside their respective academic communities.
Ceremony Marks Transition into Professional Careers
The NIFT Joint Convocation 2026 concluded with the National Song and the National Anthem, celebrating the accomplishments of graduating students and marking their transition into the professional world.
The ceremony also reaffirmed NIFT's continued focus on creativity, innovation, sustainability and excellence while encouraging graduates to contribute to India's fashion, textile and creative industries.
