35 students present traditional handlooms from across India during Handloom Week celebrations
NIFT Daman organized a runway showcase as part of the ongoing Handloom Week celebrations, highlighting Indian textile heritage and artisanal craftsmanship. The event featured 35 students from the Fashion Design, Textile Design, and Fashion Management departments, who presented traditional handlooms representing different regions of India.
The showcase brought together students, senior faculty members and NIFT alumni, highlighting the connection between academic learning and professional industry experience.
Traditional Handlooms Take Centre Stage at NIFT Daman
The runway featured 35 students wearing traditional handlooms from various states across India. The presentation highlighted regional weaves, intricate motifs and traditional draping styles, offering a visual representation of the country’s diverse textile traditions.
Senior faculty members and NIFT alumni also participated in the showcase, adding an industry and academic dimension to the Handloom Week programme.
NIFT Daman Highlights Craft Research and Product Development
Addressing the gathering, Campus Director Mr. Khushal Jangid emphasized that NIFT’s institutional initiatives, particularly Craft Research Documentation and Product Development integrated into the curriculum, are contributing to value creation for the handloom sector and artisan weavers.
The event also highlighted NIFT Daman’s focus on connecting contemporary design and innovation with craft communities while showcasing the continued relevance of Indian handloom traditions.
