MOSCOW – China’s Erdos Xinhang Energу cut capacity utilization at its monoethylene glycol (MEG) plant in Ordos (Erdos, Inner Mongolia, China) to 50% on March 10 due to planned renovations, Polymerupdate reported .
Thus, maintenance at this enterprise with a total capacity of three lines of 450 thousand tons of MEG per year will continue until the first half of May this year. All lines will be shut down for maintenance sequentially, thus maintaining a 50% utilization rate for the entire plant.
Earlier it was noted that last year the company closed the MEG plant in Ordos for scheduled maintenance from July 27 to the first half of September, as well as due to a technological failure from November 21 to 24-26.
In addition, this year Erdos Xinhang Energу carried out unscheduled repairs on one of the lines of this enterprise with a capacity of 133 thousand tons of MEG per year from mid-February to 27 February.
MEG, along with terephthalic acid (TPA), is one of the main components for the production of polyethylene terephthalate (PET).
The estimated PET consumption in Russia in January 2021 increased by 3% compared to the same indicator a year earlier. In total, according to the results of the first month of the year in Russia, the total estimated consumption of PET amounted to 57.42 thousand tons.
Xinhang Energu produces MEG using coal-to-olefin technology. Until now, the company has been the largest manufacturer of MEG for this technology in China.
