Through its subsidiary IVL Dhunseri Petrochem Industries Ltd. and in collaboration with Dhunseri Ventures Limited, Indorama Ventures Public Co. Ltd. (IVL), a leader in sustainable chemical production globally, has established a joint venture with Varun Beverages Limited, PepsiCo’s second-largest bottling company outside of the US. In order to meet the nation’s increasing need for recycled PET (rPET) and to further the companies’ commitment to sustainability, the partnership intends to establish cutting-edge PET recycling facilities throughout India.
Two PET recycling plants are being built by the joint venture, with completion expected by 2025. There are two locations for these facilities: one in Khurdha, Odisha, in eastern India, and the other in Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir, in northern India. With room for growth, the aggregate capacity of these facilities is anticipated to reach 100 kilotons of recycled PET per year.
Chairman of the ESG Council of Indorama Ventures and executive president of Petchem Special Projects Yash Lohia expressed his excitement for the partnership, saying, “We at IVL Dhunseri are delighted to collaborate with Varun Beverages in establishing these mechanical recycling facilities in India.” Being the biggest PET recycler in the world, our collaboration demonstrates our dedication to sustainability and our backing of the growing need in the area.
The Indorama Ventures, Dhunseri, and Varun Beverages partnership is positioned to improve India’s recycling system. This joint venture is expected to play a pivotal role in fulfilling the increasing demands for recycled content as regulatory frameworks continue to push for its utilization.
