Frankfurt, 20 September 2024 – ITMA ASIA + CITME, which takes place in Shanghai from October 14–19, will once again see a high level of VDMA participation with 49 exhibiting member businesses. The majority of international exhibitors at the trade show are German.

With an emphasis on spinning and man-made fibers, nonwovens, weaving, braiding, knitting & hosiery, finishing & dyeing, and textile processing, the exhibiting VDMA members cover almost all machinery chapters. “Smart technologies for green textile production” will be the theme of this year’s VDMA events in Shanghai. The VDMA members are dedicated to using highly efficient technologies to reduce resource consumption in the textile value chain. The objective is to minimize CO2 emissions by making use of the potential of resources like chemicals, water, electricity, and textiles. Thus, the show gives VDMA members a chance to demonstrate once more that they are at the forefront of innovative concepts, goods, and technology in the textile machines industry.
Dr. Harald Weber, Managing Director of the VDMA Textile Machinery Association, stated the following about the goals for ITMA ASIA 2023: “ITMA ASIA 2023 was the first edition of the show after the Covid pandemic.” It was a unique occasion because it allowed individuals to reunite after years of travel bans and lockdowns. Meanwhile, there has been a noticeable decline in the state of the economy. However, there is some hope for the future. This increases the significance of VDMA member firms’ attendance at ITMA ASIA 2024. Attendance at the event is necessary to facilitate information sharing between Asian textile makers and machinery manufacturers and to prepare for the sector’s resumption.

Throughout the last years, around 50% of the German exports of textile machinery and accessories went to Asia. Between January and July 2024, textile machinery worth about 580 million euros have been shipped from Germany to Asia, a decrease of 25% compared to 2023 due to the weak global economic situation. With 240 million euros, the biggest export market was again China, followed by India, Bangladesh, Uzbekistan, Pakistan and Vietnam.

The VDMA team in Shanghai is staffed again with colleagues from the VDMA headquarters in Germany as well as from VDMA China. With these joined forces, the team is well prepared to support the exhibiting member companies on site.
