Turkey is preparing to open its first PET polyester enzymatic recycling facility, according to large investment commitments from SASA Polyester. This move fits perfectly with SASA's overarching plan to make Turkey totally self-sufficient in the raw resources required to produce polyester. With an annual capacity of 1,750,000 tons, a new $1.5 billion SASA polyester purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant is scheduled to open in Adana this year. With this launch, Turkey will go from being a net importer of polyester to a net exporter, which is a substantial change. SASA emphasizes that the development and stabilization of the textile industry in China and South Korea depended heavily on their ability to supply their own raw materials. By the end of this year, Erdemoglu Holding's SASA intends to operationalize a second $400 million PET polyester fiber factory at its Adana complex, in addition to the PTA unit. 402,500 tons more capacity will be added annually by this new facility.
