Environmental sustainability is a fundamental aspect in which companies are investing more and more. We are no
longer talking about a sustainable future, but about the present. The fashion industry, with its Italian excellences, is in the midst of a true transition towards an industrial model in which environmental sustainability is a core part of
corporate strategic choices.

In this space full of opportunities, Sustainable Brand Platform (SBP), an all-Italian tech startup, is an innovative  solution dedicated to the fashion industry for the analysis and management of corporate sustainability performance.
SBP, on the occasion of Milano Unica 2023, presents the recently released version of its cloud platform dedicated to
the manufacturing industry, which allows the entire fashion industry such as yarn and textile companies, tanneries, and garment manufacturers to monitor, manage, and optimize environmental impact at a corporate and production process level.

An innovative element of the SBP platform is the automation of data collection, data processing, and data output.  The software collects and processes data in real-time from a wide variety of corporate systems such as ERP, Energy
Management System, PLC, IoT, and sensors, providing a mix of industrial and sustainability metrics as output.  Thanks to this, Sustainability and Operation Managers have a solid data foundation to support strategic decision-making to reduce resources consumption, environmental impacts, and therefore corporate costs.

The tools offered by SBP software are based on international scientific frameworks (such as GHG protocol, ISO, PEF), and the calculation algorithms are based on advanced technologies such as Machine Learning. Impact measurement through SBP can be done at several levels. Through the calculation of Carbon Footprint, companies  can analyze the total CO2 emissions related to Scope 1, 2, 3. Through the analysis of the production process Life  Cycle Assessment (Process LCA) and product (Product LCA), SBP also allows the evaluation of the environmental  impact of individual business processes and products. Finally, the platform provides a supply chain data  management service, which allows an efficient data collection integration from suppliers, allowing the evaluation  and management of one’s supply chain and the monitoring of its performance within the platform.

The uniqueness of the SBP software lies in its systemic approach. The platform does not focus solely on the environmental performance of the brand, the last piece of the value chain, but supports the entire supply chain through a digital solution that allows all the tiers levels to measure their performance and enter a digital ecosystem where shared data can be used to create synergies and unlock collaboration initiatives to reduce environmental impacts.

The direct benefits that this model brings to production companies are:
• Accurate impact analysis through the conversion of their consumption (electricity, heat, chemicals, water, wastewater, and production waste) into CO2eq;
• Streamline their supply chain by selecting suppliers aligned with their decarbonization strategies;
• Share primary data (down to the individual production lot) with their customers.

An important business case of how SBP software can help companies in the sector was presented last June at Pitti Filati, where Filmar spa, Italian producer of high-quality cotton-based yarns, which supplies all the best fashion brands in the world, was able to show at its stand the impact calculation of some of its products, through the Product ID Card service, which provides a detailed impact analysis of each production process, from cotton cultivation to the finished product.

The software is also used by other important players in the sector, such as Tintoria Emiliana and Tintoria Banelli, respectively leaders in yarn dyeing and piece dyeing processes.

With SBP, companies in the fashion sector can proactively address the challenges posed by sustainable transition, converging towards an industrial model that requires cutting CO2 emissions and a production model that respects the environment. With strategic management and simplified reporting, companies can create a more sustainable future for the fashion industry and achieve long-term success.
