A tragic incident unfolded in the heart of the Erode textile industry early Tuesday morning, resulting in the loss of one life and serious injuries to another. The incident occurred at Shop Numbers 194 and 195 in the Abdul Gani Textile Hub, when a wall being demolished collapsed on two workers.

The victim, identified as Subramani from Karungalpalayam, tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His colleague, Anandan, also from Karungalpalayam, sustained serious injuries and was immediately rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital for medical attention.

According to local authorities, Murugesan, the owner of the shops, had recently rented the two adjacent units and was in the process of combining them. Subramani and Anandan were working to remove the wall between the shops, while Murugesan and a female worker were standing outside. The collapse occurred unexpectedly, trapping the two workers under the debris.

Emergency services were swiftly alerted, and a team from the Erode Town police successfully rescued Anandan from the rubble. However, despite their best efforts, Subramani was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Corporation officials have since inspected the site of the incident to assess the circumstances surrounding the collapse. The police have initiated an investigation to determine whether Murugesan had obtained the necessary permits from the civic body to demolish the wall.
