PAIMIO – The first large-scale textile waste treatment plant in Scandinavia will be opened in the Finnish town of Paimio in February 2021 in partnership between Rester, a circular economy company, and the waste management service Lounais-Suomen Jätehuolto (LSJH)
Paimion Kehitys, the first facility in the Nordic countries to deal extensively with industrial procession waste for commercial reuse, will be able to handle annually 12,000 tons of textile waste, which is around 10% of Finland’s textile waste.
The pilot plant could lead to the construction of a larger facility – capable of handling textile waste from every Finnish household – in the Turku region of Finland by 2023
