The Union Textile Ministry has quickly responded to concerns expressed recently regarding the industry’s marketing of Indian handlooms by highlighting a number of industry-supporting activities.
The Ministry placed a strong emphasis on putting programs like the Raw Material Supply Scheme and the National Handloom Development Programme into action, which are designed to support handloom workers holistically and foster the industry’s expansion.
The National Handloom Development Programme provides funding, including grants for modernized looms and accessories, solar lighting systems, and marketing campaigns. Furthermore, individual weavers and handloom organizations can receive assistance with margin money, interest subvention, and credit guarantee costs through the Weavers’ MUDRA Loan/Concessional Credit Scheme.
The announcement from the Ministry follows conversations that have brought attention to the difficulties that the handloom industry faces, such as the effects of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and growing raw material costs. The Ministry emphasized its dedication to fostering the expansion and development of the sector even though it did not specifically address these particular worries.
