WRA’s TRAC Meeting Highlights R&D Progress & Future Plans

The Technical Research Advisory Committee (TRAC) Meeting of the Wool Research Association (WRA), Thane, was successfully held on Friday, 28th February 2025, in a hybrid format—both physically at the WRA conference room and virtually.

Key Highlights of the Meeting

A total of 25 members from industry, academia, and research institutions (TRAC members and special invitees) attended the meeting. During the session, WRA scientists presented the progress of ongoing R&D projects, funded by prominent agencies such as:

  • National Technical Textile Mission (NTTM)
  • Central Wool Development Board (CWDB)
  • National Jute Board (NJB)

These projects aim to drive innovation and technological advancements in textile research.

Future Research and Development Focus

The WRA scientists also outlined future research plans aimed at addressing industry needs in key areas such as:

  • Woollen Industry
  • Sports Textile Industry
  • Agro Textiles
  • Technical Textile Applications, including:
    • Extreme cold climate clothing
    • Protective textiles
    • Development of m-aramid fibres
    • Conversion of natural resources into industrial products
    • Circularity and sustainability initiatives

Industry Engagement and Insights

The meeting fostered extensive discussions, with new ideas and insights shared by TRAC members.

In his welcome address, Shri H.K. Chatterjee, Director General, WRA, emphasized WRA’s commitment to industry-driven research. He reiterated that WRA’s R&D initiatives are designed to directly benefit the textile industry.

Industry and academic leaders in attendance appreciated WRA’s research activities, testing infrastructure, and technological advancements. TRAC members also toured WRA’s state-of-the-art Research Infrastructure & Testing Facilities and acknowledged its contributions to the industry.

WRA Launches New Website

On this occasion, WRA officially launched its new website: www.wraindia.com, further enhancing accessibility to its research and technological developments.

The TRAC meeting reinforced WRA’s dedication to pioneering textile research and innovation, strengthening its position as a leader in wool and technical textiles.
