According to preliminary data released by the Ministry of Commerce, India’s textile and apparel exports recorded a 6.32% growth in the current financial year (FY 2024-25), outperforming overall merchandise exports, which remained nearly flat.
👉 These insights are based on the latest export analysis by the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI), detailed in the CITI Analysis of Quick Estimates of T&A for March 2025.

The growth has been largely fueled by apparel exports, which witnessed a notable 10.03% rise during the fiscal year, significantly contributing to the sector’s performance.

Shri Rakesh Mehra, Chairman of the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI), stated that the steady momentum in textile exports—despite global challenges—highlights the sector’s resilience, innovation, and competitive edge on the international stage. He attributed the success to proactive government policies and the formation of new trade partnerships that have reinforced exporter confidence.

He further emphasized that the Indian textile sector remains well-positioned to sustain its growth, especially amidst ongoing trade shifts. “The escalating trade friction between the U.S. and China presents a timely opportunity for India. As the U.S. looks to diversify its supply chain away from China, India stands as a credible and strategic alternative. However, to capitalize on this opening, India must pursue assertive trade diplomacy and negotiate a more predictable and favorable tariff environment,” Mehra added.
