Exports of textiles and related articles from the country fell 1.42 percent in the first eight months of the current fiscal year 2020-21 compared to the same month the previous year.
According to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan, Pakistan export textile and related articles worth $9057.503 million in July-February (2020-21) compared to $9152.889 million in July-February (2019-20), a negative growth of 1.42 percent.
Man-made staple fibres were one of the commodities that contributed to growth, with exports rising by 0.65 percent from $206.962 million last year to $208.318 million during the period under review.
Exports of garments and clothing accessories increased by 1.63 percent to $2058.455 million, while exports of other made-up garment articles (sets, used cloth) increased by 9.86 percent to $2957.635 million.
The export of silk increased by 44.41 percent from $1.360 million to $1.964 million during the period under examination, while the export of other vegetable textile fibres (paper yarn) increased by 52.23 percent from $4.813 million to $7.327 million, according to the data.
Meanwhile, special woven fabrics, tufted textile fabrics, and lace exports increased by 89.52 percent from $26.234 million to $49.720 million, according to the report.
Cotton exports fell 21.44 percent from $2215.134 million to $1740.110 million, while man-made filament exports fell 34.02 percent from $36.526 million to $24.097 million, contributing to negative growth.
