Founded in 1954 as India’s first Export Promotion Council, the Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council (TEXPROCIL) has been a stalwart champion of the country’s cotton textile industry. Over the past seven decades, TEXPROCIL has played a pivotal role in promoting Indian cotton yarn, fabrics, and made-ups in global markets, contributing significantly to the sector’s growth and international recognition.

A Legacy of Export Promotion and Industry Support

TEXPROCIL has been at the forefront of several initiatives to enhance the competitiveness of the Indian cotton textile sector. These include forging strategic partnerships with international buyers, opening regional offices across India, and establishing a global presence through overseas offices. The Council’s commitment to “Indian Cottons, Global Reach” has been instrumental in expanding the market reach of Indian textiles.

In addition to export promotion, TEXPROCIL has actively engaged in policy advocacy, representing the industry’s interests before the government. The Council has played a crucial role in negotiating favourable trade policies, including tax remission schemes like duty drawback, RODTEP, and RoSCTL. It has also been instrumental in shaping India’s participation in free trade agreements (FTAs) to unlock new market opportunities.

Championing Sustainability and Innovation

TEXPROCIL has recognized the importance of sustainability and innovation in the textile industry. The Council has encouraged the adoption of eco-friendly practices and the development of sustainable products. The Kasturi Cotton initiative, launched by TEXPROCIL, aims to brand Indian cotton as a premium, sustainable product, benefiting both farmers and exporters.

Empowering MSMEs

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) form the backbone of the Indian textile industry. TEXPROCIL has consistently supported MSMEs by providing them with access to market information, trade facilitation services, and capacity-building programs. The Council has also helped MSMEs overcome challenges related to international trade, such as complex regulations and market access barriers.

A Vision for the Future

As India strives to become a global textile powerhouse, TEXPROCIL remains committed to its mission of promoting Indian cotton textiles. The Council is aligning its efforts with the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, focusing on domestic manufacturing and reducing import dependency. By driving innovation, sustainability, and market leadership, TEXPROCIL aims to position India as a leading player in the global textile industry.

With a rich legacy and a forward-looking vision, TEXPROCIL is poised to continue its journey of empowering the Indian cotton textile sector and contributing to the nation’s economic growth.
