Spinnova, a company focused on sustainable textile yarns, and Tearfil, a Portuguese textile manufacturer, have inaugurated a new research and development (R&D) yarn spinning line. This collaboration will accelerate the development and testing of Spinnova’s innovative SPINNOVA® fibre for large-scale commercial use.
The line is located at Tearfil’s mill in Guimarães, Portugal, a centre for the textile industry. The machinery was provided by Rieter, a leading supplier of yarn production systems. Spinnova and Tearfil will share capacity on the line, allowing for efficient testing and development of SPINNOVA® fibre for various applications.
This partnership is seen as a significant step towards more sustainable textile production. Spinnova’s fibre is made from wood or recycled materials, offering an alternative to conventional, less environmentally friendly options. By combining Spinnova’s innovative fibre technology with Tearfil’s expertise in yarn processing, the collaboration aims to establish guidelines for the large-scale adoption of SPINNOVA® fibre within the textile industry.
