The Cartersville, Georgia-based Piana Nonwovens company created V/Smart, a flexible line of high-loft nonwovens with bespoke density and form options. These nonwovens, which target the transportation, furniture, and bedding industries, are up to 60% lighter and ten times more breathable than polyurethane (PU) foam.

Smart nonwovens are a sustainable substitute for conventional materials since they can be molded into any shape and are made of approved, non-toxic, and recyclable components. They are completely recyclable, sanitizable, and reshapable at the end of their lifecycle.

The nonwovens are odorless, self-extinguishing, free of volatile organic compounds, and distribute pressure evenly while preventing moisture retention. Additionally, according to the business, switching to V/Smart from PU foam can save greenhouse gas emissions by as much as 70%.
