Only three days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that Telangana would host one of the seven giant textile parks being built throughout the nation, Telangana has reportedly been left off the list by the Union Textile Ministry.

One of the huge textile parks was supposed to be built in Telangana, according to the official material on Modi’s initial announcement of the PM MITRA (Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel) programme. Yet based on the information at hand, it appears that the Textile Ministry has cancelled the park for the State.

The Textile Ministry recently claimed that the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park (KMTP) in Warangal does not match the requirements of the PM MITRA plan during a video conference with authorities. norms. The State established the KMTP in 2017 after continuously asking the Center for a mega textile park and was successful in attracting significant investments, including those from international companies. The Center never offered its assistance during the State’s efforts to support the textile industry through the KMTP. Officials stated that the State hoped KMTP will be a part of the PM MITRA programme and that the Center would provide financial support for the Warangal park.

The project in Telangana has reportedly been put on hold after the Textile Ministry voiced certain concerns about the giant textile park. For these parks, which were divided into Greenfield and Brownfield, the Center intended to provide support. %, with the different State governments required to cover the remaining costs.

But as of yet, it remained unclear which category the union government intended to assign Telangana when allocating the park. To make matters worse, senior officials from the union Textiles Ministry stated during a recent video conference that it was doubtful that the KMTP would receive funding under the PM MITRA scheme. A top official from Telangana stated that the reasons given were that KMTP did not fulfil the standards outlined in the plan and that there was no way to change the criteria to include KMTP within the scheme.
