Zhejiang Sitong New Material Technology Co., Ltd., a leading Chinese carpet yarn manufacturer, is bolstering its polyester production capabilities with the recent commissioning of an Oerlikon Neumag BCF S+ system. This strategic move positions Sitong to achieve a balanced production of polyester, polyamide, and polypropylene yarns, catering to the evolving demands of the global carpet market.
A Strategic Investment
With a total annual capacity of 50,000 tons, Sitong is one of Asia’s largest BCF yarn producers. The integration of four additional BCF S+ positions dedicated to polyester yarn production aligns with the growing preference for polyester carpet yarns. This investment enables Sitong to deliver a comprehensive range of BCF yarns comprising polyester, polyamide 6, and polypropylene, providing customers with greater flexibility and choice.
Tang Liang, President and Owner of Sitong, emphasised the company’s commitment to a diversified product portfolio: “Our strategy revolves around a broad portfolio, which enhances our resilience in the face of shifting trends and market fluctuations.” The decision to partner with Oerlikon Neumag was driven by a strong track record of successful collaborations. “Since our inception in 2002, we have consistently relied on European technology. For polyester production, Oerlikon Neumag systems are our preferred choice. Our commitment to quality has solidified our position in both domestic and international markets, validating our strategic investment decisions,” added Tang Liang.
BCF S+: A Versatile Solution
The newly installed BCF S+ Monocolor plant is primarily designed for polyester yarn production. However, its versatility extends to the efficient production of high-quality polyamide 6 yarn, demonstrated during the commissioning phase. This flexibility empowers Sitong to swiftly adapt to changing market dynamics and capitalise on opportunities presented by cost-effective PA6 yarn production.
Tang Liang further highlighted the significance of adaptability in today’s rapidly evolving market: “Trends are becoming increasingly transient. Investing in a plant is a long-term commitment. Therefore, the ability to produce different polymers on the same system without compromising product quality is a compelling advantage.”
A Booming Asian Carpet Market
The Asian carpet market is experiencing substantial growth, shifting the focus from traditional manufacturing hubs like the US and Turkey towards China. Post-pandemic, Chinese BCF yarn production has witnessed a remarkable surge, fueled by the revitalization of the automotive sector and the resurgence of travel and tourism. Sun Peng, Sales Director at Oerlikon Neumag China, attributed the increased demand to the ongoing hotel renovation and construction projects, which had been delayed during the pandemic.
