On National hand-loom day, Union Minister Smriti Irani announces Sharan village of Himachal Pradesh as one of the hand-loom villages.
Irani says the initiative will not only improve the hardships, struggles of weavers but also add on to country’s tourism generated by the visitor across the country and the globe. This initiative has been taken as a supportive measure to make in India Initiative. In her discussion she mentions that National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) students to strengthen and help promoting hand-loom products in the country. she says Prime minister Narendra Modi also wanted to promote as it will not only raise up the country’s revenue out of the hand-loom sector in particular but also build up better products in the domestic economy.
Speaking virtually from Dehra in Kangra district, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said about 20,000 people are involved in hand-loom business. He said Himachali shawls and caps have earned world fame. These Kullu and Kinnauri Hand-loom shawls have been both patented and reserved under the Hand-loom Protection Act by the government of India. The CM thanked union minister on her support and initiative for development Sharan village as a Craft Hand-loom Village. Under this project the Centre has sanctioned Rs 118.63 lakh and the state would contribute Rs 13.40 lakh.
The CM discussed his plan of one ‘one district one product’ to promote traditional products of the state. Under this state will allot 10% of the total allotted funds to the weavers for the buying of yarns and 450 handloom weavers of nine districts through Himachal Pradesh State Handicraft and Handloom Corp. This will also support the message of “vocal for local” by Prime minister Narendra Modi.
