Salem, Tamil Nadu, is set to become a significant hub for textile activity with the development of a new textile park. Minister for Industries T.R.B. Rajaa recently inspected the designated 120-acre site at Jahir Ammapalayam, signalling progress on a key initiative aimed at boosting the region’s economy and creating employment opportunities.

This project follows Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s December 2021 announcement of both a mini Tidel park and a textile park for the  Salem district. The rapid progress of the mini Tidel park, inaugurated in September after a ₹29.50 crore construction on a 55,000 sq. ft. site in Anaigoundampatti, underscores the government’s commitment to infrastructure development in the region.

The forthcoming textile park is projected to generate substantial employment, with estimates suggesting 10,000 direct jobs and an additional 30,000 to 40,000 indirect jobs. This initiative aligns with broader government efforts to stimulate industrial growth and improve livelihoods through targeted schemes. Minister Rajaa affirmed that work on the textile park is slated to begin shortly.

The Minister’s visit also included a review of the operational mini Tidel park and discussions with officials regarding the expansion of Salem Airport, highlighting a multi-faceted approach to regional development. The focus on both advanced technology sectors (represented by the Tidel park) and traditional industries like textiles signal a comprehensive strategy for economic growth in Salem.
