In order to create replica football jerseys, international sports firm PUMA has greatly increased the scope of its textile-to-textile recycling innovation, known as RE:FIBRE. Commencing with the 24/25 season, a minimum of 75% recycled textile waste and other waste materials will be used in the production of these jerseys, which will feature 35 clubs and include those for the Euro and Copa América competitions.
Building on the 46,000 RE:FIBRE jerseys produced in 2023, PUMA hopes to reduce textile waste and decrease reliance on plastic bottles for recycled polyester items. In an effort to greatly boost its capacity to recycle textile waste, the company is investigating a variety of recycling procedures, such as thermo-mechanical and chemical recycling technologies
According to PUMA Chief Sourcing Officer Anne-Laure Descours, “RE:FIBRE gives football fans a tangible example of how PUMA is working towards creating a Forever Better.” “We would like all of our polyester products to be made entirely from waste textiles. It is crucial that we reconsider our production methods and shift to a more circular business model, and RE:FIBRE is essential to that.
