Persistent Achieves Carbon Neutrality a Year Ahead of Target Aims

Persistent Systems (With one year’s notice, the global leader in digital engineering and enterprise modernization announced today that, for FY23–24, it accomplished carbon neutrality for both Scope 1 (direct emissions) and Scope 2 (indirect emissions) across its global operations. This achievement, which was confirmed by DNV Business Assurance India Private Limited, highlights the company’s dedication to sustainability and its function in aiding clients’ environmental objectives. Complying with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and worldwide endeavors to contain global warming to 1.5°C and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, it reinforces Persistent’s standing as an organization committed to social responsibility.
With certification from the Indian Green Building Council and Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, Persistent’s carbon management plan is focused on increasing energy efficiency through investments in renewable energy and the creation of energy-efficient infrastructure. The business has advanced significantly in resource management and the use of renewable energy:
  • 42% reduction in emissions through two windmills (2.1 MW each) and 2 MW solar rooftops.
  • 39% of total energy usage globally from renewable energy sources, with 44% in India.
  • 16% of renewable energy needs are met through self-generated Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) from its windmills.
  • 45% of purchased International Renewable Energy Certificates (I-RECs) cover leased and overseas facilities.
  • 99% recycling of waste generated across operations.
  • 121,035 trees contributing to carbon sequestration.
  • 28.3% reuse of treated wastewater in owned campuses within its facilities.
Persistent has also made investments in premium carbon credits that have been VERRA-certified in order to offset Scope 1 emissions, and it has reduced Scope 2 emissions by sourcing renewable energy and acquiring I-RECs.
