Leading outdoor gear company Patagonia has joined Pack4Good, a sustainable packaging program run by Canopy, a nonprofit organization devoted to preserving forests, wildlife, and the climate, marking a major advancement in Patagonia’s environmental efforts.
Focusing on Next Generation (Next Gen) packaging solutions, Patagonia is building on its long-standing collaboration with Canopy, which started in 2013 to stop the destruction of ancient and endangered forests for viscose fabrics. These methods give procurement priority over trees to sustainable substitutes like agricultural waste. The company wants to make sure that none of their packaging damages the most important forests in the world. Paper packaging, including hang tags, shoe boxes, and delivery boxes, is responsible for the logging of 3.1 billion trees a year, much of which are from forests that are vulnerable to climate change. In order to address the demands of packaging, Canopy and Patagonia are concentrating on creating substitute fibers.
Director of Packaging and Branding at Patagonia, Jennifer Patrick, expressed her excitement about the new partnership by saying, “As part of our efforts to constantly improve and adopt more responsible packaging materials, we are excited to partner with Canopy’s Pack4Good initiative.”
“We’re excited to have Patagonia join the Pack4Good family,” Canopy’s founder and executive director, Nicole Rycroft, stated. The growing need for packaging that is low-carbon and not derived from forests makes their commitment essential. In addition to assisting in the preservation of ancient and endangered forests, Patagonia is steering the outdoor clothing sector in the direction of more sustainable future.”
