Odisha’s textile industry is set for a significant expansion following the signing of six Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) at the Make in Odisha Conclave 2025. These agreements with private textile and apparel manufacturers represent a combined investment intent of ₹7,762 crore, promising to generate approximately 88,000 direct and indirect jobs. The state’s Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts Department spearheaded these partnerships with 36 companies, signalling a strong commitment to the sector’s growth.
The conclave served as a platform for industry leaders to discuss investment strategies and opportunities within Odisha’s burgeoning textile landscape, encompassing textiles, apparel, handlooms, and sericulture. Discussions centred on solidifying Odisha’s position as a key textile and apparel manufacturing hub, highlighting the state’s rich handloom heritage and exploring sustainable sericulture practices.
Beyond the major investment MoUs, the event also saw collaborative agreements between the Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts Department with both the Textiles Committee and SIDBI focusing on post-Geographical Indication (GI) initiatives. A separate MoU between the department, CSB-CTRTI, and FECCD-OWO will address Modal Eco-race Conservation within the sericulture sector.
Further reinforcing the state’s dedication to the industry, the Amended Odisha Apparel and Technical Textiles Policy (OATTP) 2022 and its operational guidelines were unveiled. These revisions aim to foster a more attractive investment climate, encourage sustainable production methods, and bolster the overall competitiveness of Odisha’s textile sector. These combined efforts emphasize the state’s commitment to nurturing its traditional handloom, textile, and sericulture industries, preserving cultural heritage while driving economic growth and prosperity for local weavers and artisans.
