NSDC launches Skill India Centre (SIC) in Surat

— The SIC Surat aims to train 2,700 beneficiaries over three years, with a focus on 50% women participation

Shri Prabhubhai Vasava, Member of Parliament from Bardoli constituency inaugurated the Skill India Center (SIC) in Surat today, a major step forward in the effort to empower India’s young workforce.

The courses offered at SIC Surat are meticulously tailored to meet the demands of the local economy, particularly in the textile & apparel, retail management, entrepreneurship, plumbing, welding and electrician sectors which are vital to Surat’s industrial landscape.

This initiative, spearheaded by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), aims to boost employability, and increase workforce participation.

Dr. Ambedkar Vanvasi Kalyan Trust, the implementing partner for this programme aims to by train 2,700 individuals over a three-year period. The initiative places a strong emphasis on gender equality, with half of the training slots reserved for women.

Prabhubhai Vasava, Member of Parliament, during his address said, “The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and NSDC have established a centre in Surat to equip the youth with relevant skills and certifications. This will enable them to not only find local employment but also explore opportunities in various fields in India and globally. The certification will also facilitate their pursuit of international experience and opportunities, with comprehensive government support. Our PM’s vision of a Kaushal and Atmanirbhar Bharat has motivated us to launch this skill center, empowering the men and women of Surat to grow and develop and seize better opportunities.”
This initiative represents a crucial step forward in enhancing employability and promoting entrepreneurship within the local workforce. Digital and financial training will ensure that beneficiaries are well-equipped with foundational skills for the modern economy.
